The Planning and Development Board, Government of Punjab (an attached department of P&D Department), is the principal planning organization at the provincial level. It coordinates and monitors development programs and activities of various departments of the provincial government. The department also prepares an overall Medium Term Development Framework (MTDF) of developmental activities in the province. The Medium Term Development Framework lays down the developmental activities to be carried out in the province in various sectors of the provincial economy. In this manner, the Planning & Development Board is one of the main actors in the growth of the economic potential of the province.

The mandate of the Planning & Development Board includes provision of technical support and coordination to various Government departments in their planning activities. The department is also the main government agency working with foreign donors in the province.

The main objectives of the department are as follows:

  • Assessment of the material and human resources of the province
  • Formulation of long and short term plans
  • Recommendations concerning prevailing economic conditions, economic policies or measures
  • Examination of such economic problems as may be referred to it for  advice
  • Coordination of all economic activities in the provincial government

Ever since its establishment, the P&D Department, besides discharging its traditional functions of regulating development funds and development schemes, has played an active developmental role to promote the realization of economic goals in the Province of Punjab. Planning & Development (P&D) Department has its offices in each District of Punjab while its Head office is in Punjab Civil Secretariat, Lahore.

Qualification as per Punjab Planning & Development Department Recruitment Rules, 1985. i) 1st class Master’s Degree in Economics/Statistics/ Commerce/Economic/ Planning/ Economic Policy/Agriculture Economics/Transportation Economics/Industrial/ Economics/  Development Economics/Business Administration or Public Finance from a recognized university; and

ii) Two years experience of work or research relating to Development Economics/Public

Finance/Banking/International Economics/Statistics or other fields of Economic Planning or Development.

NOTE:-

I) Experience in private entities shall be accepted if such entity is registered with Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Registrar of Firms or any other Regulatory Authority.

ii)Experience (Research/Administrative) will be accepted after Prescribed Qualification.

Method of Recruitment 100 % by initial recruitment.
Age Limit 24 to 35+5 years relaxation for Male and 08 years for Female
Process by Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) PPSC will take one paper MCQ type written test of 100 Marks and 90 minutes duration.

Syllabus is as under:-

i) 60% questions from General Knowledge including Islamic Studies/History of Pakistan.

ii) 40% questions from the respective subject given in the qualification criteria.

Training Prior to field posting, successful candidates will undergo Training at management & professional development department (MPDD) Lahore.
Pay / Salary Package BS-17 plus allowances admissible to employees of Government of the Punjab.

Career Prospects Planning Officer / Assistant Director (Planning) BS-17 is promoted as Assistant Chief / District Officer (Planning) BS-18 after 05 years of regular service.

Assistant Chief / District Officer (Planning) BS-18 is eligible for promotion as Chief of Section / Executive District Officer (F&P)/ District Officer (Planning )    (BS-19) upon completion of service length as prescribed by the Government.
