FBR is a semi-autonomous federal agency of Pakistan that is responsible for enforcing fiscal laws and collecting revenue for the government of Pakistan. FBR has the responsibility for (i) formulation and administration of fiscal policies, (ii) levy and collection of federal duties, taxes and other levies, and (iii) quasi-judicial function of deciding taxation cases and appeals. FBR is perhaps the largest federal department in Pakistan. FBR primarily operates through its main collection arms comprising Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) and Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) across the country.

FBR has two major wings: the Inland Revenue & Customs. The Inland Revenue Service (formerly known as Income Tax Department) administers domestic taxation including Sales Tax, Income Tax and Federal Excise Duties and is the main component of FBR.

The Pakistan Customs Service administers import duties and other taxes collected at import stage, as well regulates international trade with regard to prohibitions & restrictions imposed by the government. For the purpose of collection of revenue and pursuing tax evaders, FBR’s powers & functions also include but are not limited to: carrying out inquiries and audits/investigations into the tax affairs, commanding arrests, attachment as well as public auction of movable and immovable assets of a non-compliant.

QUALIFICATION/ PHYSICAL STANDARD OF FITNESS:

  • Second Class or Grade ‘C’ Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university with Economics, Commerce, Statistics, Accounting, Computer Science, Law, Pharmacy, Chemistry or Physics as one of the subjects or B.Sc Engineering in any specialty.
  • MINIMUM HEIGHT: (a) FOR MALE: 5′-6″ (b) FOR FEMALE: 5′-2″.
  • MINIMUM CHEST MEASUREMENT: 32″-33.5″
  • Computer literacy up to the level of MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Excel.
  • AGE LIMIT: 20-28 years plus five (5) years general relaxation in upper age limit.
  • NUMBER OF VACANCIES = ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY EIGHT (158). DOMICILE/QUOTA: Merit=Twelve, Punjab=Seventy Nine (Open Merit=Sixty Seven, Women quota=Eight and Minorities/ Non-Muslim quota= Four), Sindh(Rural)=Eighteen (Open Merit=Fifteen, Women quota=Two and Minorities/ Non-Muslim quota= One), Sindh(Urban)=Twelve (Open Merit=Eleven and Minorities/ Non-Muslim quota= One) , Khyber Pakhtunkhwa=Nineteen (Open Merit=Sixteen, Women quota=Two and Minorities/ Non-Muslim quota= One), Balochistan=Nine (Open Merit=Eight and Minorities/ NonMuslim quota= One), GBFATA=Six and AJK= Three. APPRAISING/VALUATION OFFICER (BS-16), PERMANENT, REVENUE DIVISION, FEDERAL BOARD OF REVENUE.

SELECTION PROCESS:-

Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) shall conduct the General procedure is follows:-

  • Written Exam 100 marks.
  • Interview
  • Recommendations
  • Training as prescribed by the Government.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY:-

INSPECTOR CUSTOMS/ INTELLIGENCE OFFICER

A customs inspector works in law enforcement, enforcing the laws that governs imports and exports. They inspect those entering and exiting the border. They work to ensure security against terrorists and terrorist acts, inspect travelers for citizenship and passports, and enforce the trade regulations through local, state, city, and country law enforcement officials.

APPRAISING/VALUATION OFFICER

Examination of export/import consignments/ goods at wharfs/ Dry ports/ Airport/ Customs stations etc. and detection of mis-declarations.

Reconciliation/audit of temporary import bonds (Raw material & machinery).
Assessment of duty/taxes and determination of value of consignment in accordance with the Customs Act, 1969.

Confirmation of Pakistan Customs Tariff(PCT) headings, ascertains and cross checks the value, type quality and quantity of the consignment.

PREVENTIVE OFFICER

Preventive Officers the examination recruits candidates in the Central Excise Inspector and Examiner posts. Preventive Officer works in the Custom department, which is an authority responsible for collecting tariff and controlling the flow of goods and items, in and out of the country.

CAREER PROGRESSION AND SALARY:-

The salary of INSPECTOR CUSTOMS/ INTELLIGENCE OFFICER, APPRAISING/VALUATION OFFICER and  PREVENTIVE OFFICER BS-16 is around 45000 per month plus Government residences at place of duty.
