If we go through these groups, it may be seen that some subjects have 200 marks and other have 100 marks; meaning thereby that a candidate may select 200 marks subject and he has to take two papers in that subject one each of 100 marks otherwise he may select 100 marks each paper making it 200 marks per group and 600 marks selective papers overall. The revision of groups by FPSC in the recent years has made it little difficult for candidates having background in Arts & Humanities subjects as compared with Sciences but it does not make it impossible for the arts backgrounds student. The most important aspect is the interest and keenness to select a paper. No paper is low scoring or high scoring; it is the material which we present in the papers and the level of preparedness.

In the year 2016, FPSC revised the syllabus and groups for written papers. Some subjects previously having 200 marks (2 papers) were reduced to 100 marks (1 paper) such Geography, Punjabi, Indopak History etc. Previously, these papers were the most selective by the candidates as they were considered high scoring papers and material on them was/ is easily available. Every second candidate used to select IndoPak History or Punjabi or Geography. These subjects were more attractive for those who had Arts & Humanities background. Candidates with Science or Engineering background also selected them.
