Education is evolving day by day and the experts keep on introducing new techniques for assessment of students pursuing professional degrees and careers. Some tests are designed to judge, assess and calculate aptitude of students seeking admission in field of their choice whereas, other tests are introduced to ascertain and assess the suitability of candidates for a certain field and career.
Most renowned of the assessment tests is the Graduate Record Examination commonly known as GRE. It was further extended as Graduate Assessment Test General and later as Graduate Assessment Test for subjects. In Pakistan, GRE and GAT were started by National Testing Service in the year 2002 onward for HEC & Universities / Colleges for students seeking higher studies.
Higher Education Commission is in process to conduct such test for different fields of study. The same was felt necessary in Pakistan for students seeking admission in LLB in Law Colleges & Law Graduates who passed LLB and seeking career in field of Law as Lawyer, Civil Judge, Attorneys at Law, Assistant Advocate Generals, Assistant Registrar etc. The August Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered to conduct Law Graduate Assessment Test vide its judgment dated 06.03.2018 for those LLB Degree holders who intend to get registration with Bar Councils in Pakistan. The registration with Bar Councils in Pakistan will be subject to qualifying the LAW-GAT Test. Higher Education Commission, HEC has been assigned with the task to conduct to the Law Graduate Assessment.
Higher Education Commission Pakistan in pursuance of order of the August Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced to conduct the Law Graduate Assessment Test for LLB Degree holders who intend to get registration with the Bar Councils in Pakistan. The advertisement has appeared in the Newspapers on 19.08.2018.
The test has been categorized as Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT). All the LLB degree holders who have passed the LLB final year from Universities recognized by Pakistan Bar Council are eligible to apply for LAW-GAT. Online registration process shall continue till September 3, 2018. Test fee of RS. 3000/- has been prescribed and will be submitted through Banks, detail available at HES website. LAW-GAT will be held by HEC on Sunday, September 16, 2018. The qualifying marks are 50% and a candidate may avail three chances to clear the LAW-GAT.
Generally the test is of 100 marks; comprising of general ability test and subject specific. The preparation for the test may be made from any GRE or GAT general Books and from the LLB books studied.
